Who makes you want to be a better person?
I am a firm believer that we have to surround ourselves with people that inspire us and make us want to be a better person in order to be the best we can be. We are all work’s in progress. Having the intuition to place good folks around us, can only take us to a higher level. Goodness is imperative for our growth.
I have been blessed with a great sense of character. I am fairly quick to cut those short that will not be good for me. And to hold those close that I know will help me grown. Some might think it is a little self righteous of me, but that is just how I roll. I always trust my gut on people. With a few rotten apples I have been very blessed to have good people come into my life.
One person who inspires me to be a better person is a dear friend of mine. He and I met in college and have remained the best of friends for the last 17 years. We have grown up together in a sense. We have matured from the punky little drunken escapades in college to responsible mature adults (okay, I will admit he is WAYYY more mature than I am).
He is a teacher/coach/mentor/friend and continues to blow me away with his love, concern and generosity for the kids in his community. I consider myself a pretty good person, until I hear him speak of his days. Whether it be the kid who needs an extra $5 for lunch or the kid who needs a ride to a game. He is always there to step up and do what needs to be done. He puts in long hours mentoring these kids, trying to show them love and respect when they maybe do not get the same at home. He does this with no complaints. I admire him for his tenacity, his drive to do well by people. I never thought that the “jerk” that came trick or treating to my dorm room all those years ago would be such an inspiration to me. I am not sure how much he is rewarded or even thanked for all his hard work and dedication. I love him and respect him and he truly is an inspiration to me and makes me want to be a better person.

Hmmmmm….The List is Loooooooooong!!!! LOL!!! My Parents, My Brother, My friends that I have been blessed with in the course of my 38 years! Just to name a few!!!
Your friend sounds like an amazing guy. You all inspire me. Corny response, but true.
